Evening Makeup

Correct me if I’m wrong, but every girl/woman/lady/granny wants to look absolutely divine on some special evening, at some point. Granted, for some of my clients, this is every Saturday night! For others, it’s a super special occasion. It may be a Christening, a rare night out with the girls, a wedding reception, a day at the races, or maybe it’s the first time you’ve seen your ex post-breakup, and naturally, you’ve got to look absolutely glorious…we’ve all been there.

screenshotI know, alarm bells ring when you’re enquiring about having your makeup done…. ‘Will it last?’… ‘Is it worth the cost?’… ‘Will my lashes stay on?’…. ‘What products are used?’

This is Natasha, a party-animal client of mine and the girl needs her face to be ON! In my opinion, to create long-wearing makeup, you have to understand a person’s face; their skin, age, colour, shapes and textures. You have to use good products, great brushes, and know how they all work. Then you have to put it all together to create the desired look. It’s a scary job having someone’s face in your hands, no pressure at all (joke).

The majority of my Kit is MAC. As I worked for the brand for a long time, I know the products inside-out and have complete faith in them. However, there are so many amazing brands out there now and I find it very difficult to stop buying things. I’m like a magpie with shiny lipsticks. SO, in to the old makeup box, I’ve snook in products from the likes of Anastasia Beverly Hills, Sleek, NARS, Eldora False Lashes, Duo, Smashbox and Inglot. On the Blog, you will find plenty-a-product-review. And truthful ones at that.

If your still not convinced I should paint your face (what’s a girl gotta do!), I have a Testimonials section on my Homepage, where lots of ladies have doodled their thoughts.

Bridal Makeup

Imagine having a Bride’s face in your hands on the biggest day of their life? Yes, that’s my job. AND I TOTALLY LOVE IT! Yes it’s pressurised, intense, emotional and nerve-racking. But it’s also exciting, fun, giddy and inexplicably special to spend a morning with a Bride and her Bridal Party.

After spending countless morning with nervy Brides, at spectacular Wedding venues, you come to realise that it’s not just about being good at makeup. I have morphed in to all of the following at some point or another; wedding dress holder, kerby grip holder, tear-wiper, champagne pourer, poser (for those perfectly-poised makeup snaps), babysitter, mediator, calmer-downer, wise old woman with words of comfort, and even Tinkerbell, for those sparkle-expectant flower girls. God knows how I well I performed these duties, but if there’s one thing I’m absolutely positive, I know exactly what I’m doing on the makeup front.

These things are all part of the beauty of a Wedding morning. However, you do tend to question your job…and life actually…when the Father of the Bride asks you to pluck out his rogue grey eyebrow hair.

Weddings are one of my favourite things to do, I go to work thinking I have the best job in the world. To make somebody feel so beautiful and unique on such an important day, provides me with amazing self and job-satisfaction. I don’t want to change how you look – I want you to look like yourself on your Wedding Day. An enhanced version of yourself.

Enough of the chit-chat, I hereby swear to make your day as perfect as I can. In the Bridal section of my Portfolio, you will find an endless amount of beautiful images from the past 5 years.

Fashion/Editorial Makeup

If I hadn’t worked for MAC, I don’t think I would have ever understood Fashion makeup. When you think of makeup and fashion, you may think of current colours, current styles, or maybe current brands. I remember feeling totally overwhelmed when I realised how much more there is to it. The amount of thought, time and dedication that goes in to Fashion/Editorial is astounding.

To me, delving in to the world of Makeup & Fashion requires concentration, an understanding a persons face on a totally different level to beauty makeup. It is an expression, a statement, and the makeup tells a story.

During my time at MAC, I was lucky enough to get a place on the Event Team; a small number of skilled Artists from the UK and Ireland who are selected to represent MAC within the Industry. Events for me included working on numerous film sets, TV musicals, dramas for the BBC, backstage at London Fashion week, on the Graduate shows at London Royal College of Art. Not to mention working with some of the most highly respected Makeup Artists; Alex Box, Andrew Gallimore, Aaron de Mey, Chrissie Baker, the MAC Senior Artists.

As you can imagine, the opportunities were amazing and it was an absolute honour.

Outside of MAC, as a freelancer (Makeup By Frankie!), I have worked with the likes of Boss Model Management, Adidas, BBC, Manchester Evening News, Boohoo, JD Sports, Manchester Confidential, Independent Clothing Retailers, Online Retailers. Anything from working backstage, blogger events, sporting shoots, clothing shoots, on TV/film sets, charity events – I’ve been there!

I’ve worked with stars from Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Shameless, Geordie Shore, Manchester United Football Club, Manchester City Football Club, England Rugby Team. (A lot of male grooming on the latter few!)

If you want to enquire about anything, please get in touch, or have a look at the Fashion/Editorial section in my Portfolio.

Seminars

One of my favourite things to do! When I opened my Popup-Studio in November 2014, these were one of the services I was going to offer for the 6 weeks. After that time, they had become so popular that I continued doing them, & kept the Studio open. No word of a lie, the reason I came up with the idea is because all I heard from friends/family/clients/fellow MUA’s, is ‘How do you do this’, ‘how do you do that’, ‘what products do I need for my skin’, ‘what’s the best foundation’ etc etc. SO, I designed a Seminar that would answer all of these questions….and spare my peace of mind.

I know how frustrating it is when flick eyeliner isn’t even, your foundation is going patchy on your skin, your dark circles just WON’T be covered, or your lipstick is making your teeth look yellow. Through the years, I have been so engrossed in the Makeup world, that I have all of the answers to these questions, and every other question you may have. I’m like a sponge for makeup-related info. Try me.

Watch & Learn Seminars

The original Seminar. During these sessions, I demo makeup on myself, or a model while a group of 4-8 women sit as a group and watch. I’m not about a silent room, so I urge anyone and everyone to ask questions. There are different themes for the Watch & Learn Seminars. So far there has been; Essential Makeup, Smokey Eyes & Nude Lips, Smokey Eyes & Coloured Lips, Hollywood Glamour, Grunge, Spring, Green Glitter & Purple lips.

In each 90 minute session, a full look is demonstrated; Moisturising, Priming, Flawless Skin, Eyes, Eyeliner, Lash Application, Highlight & Contour, Cheeks, Defined Brows, Lips. But depending on the theme of the Seminar, I use different products & techniques to create the desired look. I go through exactly what I’m doing, what products & brushes I’m using and the best techniques to use.

The feedback I’ve had from past attendees has been phenomenal. One client messaged to inform me that what she had learnt was ‘life-changing’ , which I thought may have been a little OTT. But if you switched from a heavy, mottling foundation to a BB cream that stays on the entire day….when I thought about it, maybe that is life-changing? I took the compliment, nevertheless.

I run these Seminar’s every month, you can find the dates here, or on my Facebook Page.

Interactive Seminars

I run two kinds of Interactive Seminar; For Makeup Artists or Non Makeup Artists. Once again, in either Seminar , a full look will be demonstrated; Moisturising, Priming, Flawless Skin, Eyes, Eyeliner, Lash Application, Highlight & Contour, Cheeks, Defined Brows, Lips.

For Makeup Artists

This Interactive Seminar is for Makeup Artists of any level. They are great to attend if you want to brush up on, or learn new techniques, if you are fresh out of training, or maybe just need re-inspiring. The session lasts 2 and a half hours and there will be between 3-5 people in each Seminar. Each Makeup Artist brings a model to work on, and recreates the look step-by-step alongside me. During the Seminar, there will be a full Kit & brushes to use throughout, so no need to bring anything with you. I also provide a Product List for you to fill in as we go along. The Seminars are very interactive, very hands-on with lots of practice and a very relaxed learning environment. Everybody feels comfortable, all questions are answered and I always find it surprising how much everyone learns from each other. I will be walking round, giving feedback & helping where needed.

I run several different Interactive Seminars for Makeup Artists. For example ‘Bridal Makeup’, ‘Smokey Eyes, Nude Lips’.

For Non Makeup Artists

This Seminar is for women/girls who really want to learn more about makeup products, brushes and techniques. If you want to learn how to improve your makeup skill, you would benefit hugely from these Seminars. I know how daunting the makeup world can be, with a general feeling of ‘Where do I start?’.

The session lasts 2 and a half hours and there will be between 3-5 people in each Seminar. You will be recreating the look on yourselves, step-by-step alongside me demonstrating the look. (so you get tot see me without makeup too!).

Products and brushes will be provided for you to use throughout the Seminar.

Each time I run this Seminar, each person cannot believe they have applied their makeup themselves.

1-1 Lessons

I teach a lot of 1-1 Lessons, with all different clients. Beginner or confident, your skill level doesn’t matter one bit. As long as you know what you want to learn, or what you want to improve on. Usually during a 1-1 Lesson, I will do half of your face, and you will do the other half. Sometimes this scares people! But trust me, it’s the best way to learn. Everybody wants to get better at makeup, and to do that, you have to touch and feel the products/brushes yourself. (I think so anyway). I get great results from my 1-1 Lessons, clients always leave the Studio much more confident.
